Yearbook Photo

This is Barbra Streisand. In high school.

I can’t quite understand why I appreciate her so much. Perhaps it’s her toughness, an edge to her that says she won’t easily be pushed around. Maybe that’s what happens when you grow up in Brooklyn or when your dad dies when you are 1 year old and it’s up to your tough-as-nails mam and grandmams to raise you.

She basically went from being basically homeless at 16 to pursue her dreams of being an actor, to playing juke joints and backdoor clubs in the 60s, to now being one of only 16 people in the history of entertainment with an EGOT.
